Dedicated to the better distribution of healthcare for everyone and a more caring world. As an extension of its work as a pharmaceutical company and as part of its social responsibility, sanofi-aventis has pursued a humanitarian sponsorship agenda for the past 15 years. Together with its partners and humanitarian associations, the Group helps reduce inequalities and works towards more equitable access to health care worldwide. A question of valuesSolidarity is a foundational value of sanofi-aventis' corporate culture. ln addition to purely financial sponsorship, the Group shares its scientific, technical and human expertise with its partners in three areas closely associated with its business activities: health, solidarity and childhood. Programs have been set up globally for prevention, education, health care and access to treat¬ment, support for the disabled, and the fight against mistreatment and exclusion. These spon¬sorship activities will respond to humanitarian emergency situations. Above all they form part of a long-term agenda aimed at providing sustainable support to the most vulnerable popula¬tions in both industrialized and less developed countries. These actions proved successful because they combine skills from different partners (NGOs, hospitals, health authorities) to generate creative and innovative solutions for the populations concerned. They are also based on the involvement of Group employees around the world, who provide their expertise, volunteer their services, or make financial donations which are matched by the Group. By giving a concrete illustration of the Group's social responsibility, these programs embody the values of courage, audacity, creativity, respect, performance and solidarity. Global-local actionsAt the corporate level, humanitarian sponsorship is the result of corporate-driven programs including those led by affiliates and local associations worldwide. The humanitarian sponsorship Department drives around fifty programs in over 40 countries. In 2006, these programs represented a commitment of nearly 40 million euros for humanitarian emergencies and development projects, together with sponsorship actions conducted directly by affiliates and sites. A clear, transparent framework for actionThe Group's policy is codified in a Humanitarian Sponsorship Charter which provides guide¬lines for global actions. Sanofi-aventis selects humanitarian sponsorship actions on the basis of six main criteria: ConsistencyPrioritize thematic activities: health – solidarity – childhood in the fields of prevention, education, training, hygiene, access to healthcare, disability, and children’s traumas. UsefulnessRespond to the most basic needs that society handles inadequately today, especially for the most destitute populations. InvolvementGo beyond a purely financial reflex and share human, professional and technical skills with civil society partners in civil society, and encourage employee commitment. SustainabilityBuild lasting partnerships with recognized associations and non-governmental organizations (N.G.Os) in the health and solidarity community. TransparencyEnsure that activities and the usage of funds are fully transparent. InnovationDevelop original pilot programs that can later be implemented in other countries. |
