Content : Stem cells – The situation today
Stem cells are involved in the processes of tissue regeneration and homeostasis. These processes are triggered in the event of surgery, injury and disease. An understanding of the molecular mechanisms governing stem cells is essential in light of the considerable biomedical applications they offer.
Stem cells also represent major potential for research because they have not only the ability to renew themselves, but also to differentiate into several types of cells. For example, a bone marrow stem cell may give rise to a white blood cell, a red blood cell or blood platelets.
