Vaccines - Policy

Access to health is an imperative for developing countries. Guaranteeing healthcare to all at an affordable price is, however, a responsibility that falls on society as a whole, and no one can assume such a responsibility alone. Solutions will be found in public-private partnerships and through forthright, open collaborations among all stakeholders.

In response to this challenge, sanofi pasteur, in conjunction with its partners, has set up a number of programs to combat epidemics, provide training for healthcare professionals, and pursue research and development for new vaccines.

Sanofi pasteur's Research and Development program also includes vaccines created essentially or exclusively for the poorest countries. For example, sanofi pasteur is working to develop a vaccine to prevent dengue fever, a disease transmitted by mosquitoes that has a severe impact in a number of countries. It affects nearly 100 million people and causes 20,000 deaths each year, especially among children. Sanofi pasteur is also developing combination vaccines adapted to the needs of developing countries. Based on the hepatitis B vaccine produced in the factory located in Pilar, Argentina, these vaccines will make it possible to confer protection against five or six diseases with a single injection.
