Learning experience reports

A better understanding of risk situations for all employees

Major incidents and accidents are analyzed by those involved at the local level. These analyses aim to correct risk situations and provide feedback on divergences, anomalies and shortfalls from technical, human and organizational standpoints. This forms the basis for learning from experience. The goal is then to share the acquired knowledge.

Site HSE coordinators report information in descriptive documents that are made available to the entire HSE network via the intranet. The most important and most instructive information is documented by the Corporate HSE Department in PRESS sheets (learning from experience reports) for distribution worldwide. PRESS sheets include the event description, an analysis, immediate corrective actions, as well as recommendations for improving safety in the workplace.  

Audit of chemical development activities

Improving risk control at pilot chemical processing units in R&D

Chemical development activities are unique in that they involve complex chemical syntheses with no currently defined process safety parameters. In order to improve risk control of pilot processing units in this sector, an in-depth study and audit program was implemented in 2005-2006 at all of the research centers where chemical development activities take place.

The identified strengths and weaknesses vary according to site, making it possible to share and learn from other experiences and develop a level of good practices that all units can strive to achieve.
